How do you know when you need a personal assistant?

The idea of having a personal assistant (PA) is something that appeals to many business professionals and entrepreneurs when they begin their careers.

Having a PA, however, is not something that comes from luxury, but often a necessity due to intense schedules and expectations.

With this in mind, how do you know when you need a personal assistant?

Are you struggling to cope with smaller tasks?

If you’ve got your mind on the bigger picture, it is easy to view smaller tasks as getting in the way of some of the larger ones.

Whether you’re struggling to find the time to research transportation, book hotels, or meet clients at the door, these are tasks that are perfect for personal assistants.

Are you forgetting about events?

If you find that you are remembering events or meetings at the last minute, this is one sign that you could require a personal assistant.

In the modern business world, it goes without saying that time is money, so schedules are often packed and timed to the last minute, and unfortunately, this means that small meetings or appointments are often overlooked.

With a personal assistant, however, you’re never going to miss a second.

Is your to-do list longer than your arm?

Even if you know when all your meetings are, or you are coping with some of life’s smaller tasks, you could find that your daily to-do list encroaches on your personal time.

If this is the case, you could easily shorten your daily to-do list by delegating some of the smaller and more convenient tasks to your PA.

Whether filing business receipts, reporting on client hours, or simply booking in one-to-ones, a personal assistant can easily alleviate some of life’s smaller tasks and activities.

Do you find that your work-life balance is off the hook?

If you find that you are having issues with controlling your personal time, this could have a huge impact on your mental health and wellbeing.

In fact, studies have shown that when working long hours, more than 25 per cent of staff feel depressed.

Furthermore, nearly two-thirds of employees have experienced a negative effect on their personal life due to overwork.

This is where a personal assistant can not only be a welcome hand in the workplace, but also a life-saver in general.

We often say that hiring a PA is an investment in you, and this is the perfect example of that philosophy.

The next steps

For those that have read through this article and have answered yes to just about everything, then it is perhaps time you started looking into hiring a personal assistant.

Keep in mind what you want your personal assistant to do, as well as what skills and experience they should bring to the role. Ask yourself:

  • Will your role require someone who can speak multiple languages?
  • Will they need a full driving licence?
  • Do they need to be able to travel freely within the EU?

These are just some of the questions that we find managers and business professionals asking themselves when hiring a personal assistant.
